The role of insulin in the human body

Insulin, produced by the pancreas, is permanently present in the blood. Its role is to maintain blood sugar levels around 1 g/l when sugar intake is high: insulin is a hypoglycemic hormone. When sugar levels rise, for example after a meal, the pancreas produces more insulin to bring blood sugar levels back to normal. Insulin also allows the cells of the body to capture the sugar circulating in the blood according to their needs (for example muscle cells during exercise) and to use it to transform it into energy. If necessary, it allows the storage of unused sugar, in the liver or fat cells. If insulin is insufficient or if it is ineffective, sugar accumulates in the blood and blood sugar levels increase excessively: this is hyperglycemia. In the absence of treatment, this hyperglycemia remains at an excessively high level: it is chronic hyperglycemia that defines diabetes. french :  https://diplomacy-development.blogspot.com/2023/04/le-role-de-linsuline-dans-le-corps.html     Cassian T
