Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Conflict Prevention Framework Workshop on Africa Programme for Peace Holds in Lagos

The 3-Day Workshop is billed to fashion out ways to improve ECOWAS interventions in Peace and Security in the Region. An Orientation Workshop for ECOWAS Conflict Prevention Framework (ECPF) Directorate Components on Africa Programme for Peace (APP-IV) Agreement with ECOWAS Commission, begins on the 2nd of November, 2022 in Lagos, Nigeria. The 3-Day Workshop which is being supported by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) is billed to fashion out ways to improve ECOWAS interventions in Peace and Security in the Region. Participants and by extension, the Commission will be looking forward to owning the main documents relating to DANIDA engagement with ECOWAS while improving the knowledge of ECOWAS on administrative and financial procedures having to do with APP-IV as well as the enhancement of staff budgeting and reporting skills. The European Investment Bank (EIB) has agreed to EUR 100 million financing with MTN Nigeria Communications Plc (MTN Nigeria) to support the telecommunications company’s network expansion programme. The investment will aid the acceleration of 4G coverage in Nigeria and expand broadband access in line with MTN’s Ambition 2025 strategy. This transaction represents EIB’s largest financing for mobile telecoms network expansion in Africa and is consistent with MTN Nigeria’s digital transformation and inclusion efforts. The Deputy Minister reaffirmed South Africa’s commitment to strengthening the existing bilateral and economic relations between the two countries. The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Candith Mashego-Dlamini, has concluded her successful visit to the Central Africa region, where she visited the Republic of Equatorial Guinea and the Republic of Cameroon from 18-25 October 2022. During her visit to Malabo, the Deputy Minister met the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr Simeon Oyono Esono Angue. United Kingdom announces humanitarian assistance for 150,000 women and children suffering drought and conflict in Ethiopia

This is part of a wider £156 million UK commitment to humanitarian support for crises in East Africa this year. Minister for Development Vicky Ford uses a two-day visit to Ethiopia to urge for peace and pledge more support to victims of the drought affecting 24 million already vulnerable people. Support will provide hundreds of thousands of severely malnourished children, mothers and survivors of sexual violence with medical treatment, water, sanitation, basic education and mental health support. Minister Ford will urge for an end to fighting for the sake of civilians, particularly in the north, facing violence and starvation.
