Pour les travaux d’aménagements de la route et la réhabilitation/construction des infrastructures connexes, elle a bénéficié d’un don de 68,82 millions de dollars américains et d’un prêt de 660 000 dollars du Fonds africain de développement. Débutés en 2016, les travaux du tronçon routier Lovua-Tshikapa (en République démocratique du Congo), long de 56 kilomètres sont quasiment achevés. World Health Organization (WHO) calls for more action to end ‘cycles of poverty and stigma’ related to tropical diseases

More countries have worked to eliminate dengue, leprosy and other neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) over the past decade, but greater efforts and investment are needed in the face of pandemic-related disruptions, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Monday. To mark World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day, the UN agency has released a report highlighting progress and challenges in delivering care for these 20 conditions, which mainly affect the world’s poorest people.  NTDs are caused by a variety of pathogens including viruses, bacteria, parasites, fungi and toxins, and can be deadly.  Other examples are Buruli ulcer, Chagas disease, chikungunya, rabies, scabies and yaws.  Stigma and hardship  They are mainly prevalent in tropical areas, primarily in locations where water safety, sanitation and access to healthcare are inadequate. The Second Meeting of the Advisory Council of the African Fisheries Reform Mechanism (AFRM) took place in the Safir Hotel in Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt, on January 25 and 26, 2023. The meeting was organised by the African Union- Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) in collaboration with the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt as part of the second phase of a fisheries governance project funded by the European Union (FishGov 2). An IMF mission led by Olivier Basdevant visited Banjul over the period January 10—24, 2023, to conduct a diagnostic of governance and corruption vulnerabilities in The Gambia. At the request of The Gambia authorities, an IMF mission conducted a diagnostic to assess the strength of the governance framework in The Gambia, identify vulnerabilities, including to corruption, and offer reform options, guided by the IMF’s framework for Enhanced Engagement in Addressing Governance Vulnerabilities. The authorities made significant progress in bringing their legal framework closer to best practices, and challenges remains with limited capacity, manual processes and the needed continued improvements of the legal framework. Collaboration on the Governance Diagnostic will continue until the exercise concludes with the finalization of a report, setting out the findings in detail as well as recommendations. The International Criminal Court (ICC) ( http://www.ICC-CPI.int ) launched o n 25 January 2023  a new series of 15 videos in French and Spanish, in which experts of the Court and of the Assembly of States Parties Secretariat develop key themes on the study of International Criminal Law (ICL) and the ICC. Topics include the creation of the ICC, the general principles of individual criminal responsibility, the crimes under the Rome Statute, the cooperation of States, the rights of victims and defendants, preliminary examinations and investigations, among others. Blood Pressure Monitoring in Thailand Five billion people globally remain unprotected from harmful trans fat, a new status report from the World Health Organization (WHO) has found, increasing their risk of heart disease and death.   Since WHO first called for the global elimination of industrially produced trans fat in 2018 — with an elimination target set for 2023 — population coverage of best-practice policies has increased almost six-fold. Forty three countries have now implemented best-practice policies for tackling trans fat in food, with 2.8 billion people protected globally. Despite substantial progress, however, this still leaves 5 billion worldwide at risk from trans fat’s devastating health impacts with the global goal for its total elimination in 2023 remaining unattainable at this time. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt Meets with Qin Gang
