City Pumbu a green space preventing global warming

When you walk in the area of Matadi Mayo precisely in the City Pumbu, you will feel like being in a new world safe and clean, just because of such extraordinary green places that can make you dream a little bit as someone belonging to a world with clean and pure fresh air.

I have had the chance to visit this place and I made in my mind this idea of a green world without Carbone emissions and without all kinds of activities that can destroy the atmosphere and environment where we live is absolutely possible to realize by creating a kind of policy that can help develop people but at the same time making them know that they have best place to maintain both for the environment reasons and also for themselves.

We all know that there places where the Carbone emission is the song of everyday and it seems like it is not possible to stop completely this situation but we can balance the emissions of  Co2 by having places where there are absolutely not activities which have a nature of global warming legacy.

Talking about the green world, City Pumbu is a best example of how people can take care of their spaces and how they can manage to live, to eat, to cultivate and have a crop, to have power energy, take care of their families and communities, without generating chemical particles that are the main causes of global warming. It happens in Democratic Republic of Congo.

When it comes to have clean water, they have their sources named “Majimba” located almost in the center of the City. Every morning there are hundreds of children, men and woman, little girl who come to draw water. The water of  Majimba doesn’t cause diseases or any health consequences according to peoples who drink and use this water. « This is the water we consume every day and it is proper to drink and cook with » said a little girl who was drawing the water from Majimba.

I have talked with a mother of 7 children who told me the same idea of drawing water even if they can have the water provided by the National service of clean water called “Regideso” which has put into some houses the pomp. But what is also a problem is the lack of sufficient pomp and the fact that for having access to the pomp, peoples should pay the owner of the pomp and this is what they don’t want. Instead of paying too much, they prefer to draw what they think is more better the water from source “Majimba”.

The biggest town of Kinshasa the capital of Democratic Republic of Congo located in the center of the African continent has 2 seasons that are; dry and raining season. There are very sad facts when we are in the raining season exactly from September to May in the year.

During this period the people of City Pumbu live in the fear of having their houses destroyed by violent rains. Most of the houses are built without a solid foundation and not in the design required to protect inhabitants so the water from the rain can get into the houses causing flooding and weaken the structure of the house for a long term consequence.

“We hear peoples calling loudly for help when it’s raining, and we come to help by stopping the water to penetrate in the house but also making sure that all the water already filtered by the pressure is out of the house and dried » reported a woman in the neighborhood”.

The 85 percent of the families living in City Pumbu have also the lack of electricity and they don’t care about having power or not. So most of the time they house the fire of wood that they cut form trees. As consequence you can see the smoke raising after noon and peoples have the habit to burn their useless clothes or garbage can this time of the day. This is one the thing that can be considered as weak of the place added to the lack of “big and common garbage” where people can throw their trashes. That led to the accumulation of foulness and impurities.

Another thing that they need is the good road and the best canalization of the water from rains because the raining period is too long.

You can be surprised to not seeing any erosion in such mountainous side of the town Kinshasa. There are multiples mountains and trees over there are numerous, including flowers, herb, plan diverse vegetable, and also spaces for agriculture.

The secret of that can be maybe the strategy imagined by peoples over there which is to plant trees and plants in order to reduce the risk of erosions. « The trees and plant helped us to prevent the erosion; this is the only way for us to avoid the catastrophe ».

The chief of the Quarter appointed by the provincial authority has given a task to an officer to send by megaphone every 2 or 3 night the message of « security mechanism and sanitation ».
“I have heard the guy with megaphone saying at 4h am: You must manage to have a small loophole in your plot so that when it rains you will prevent your neighboring plot to not being flooded. And with regard to the security when you notice someone you have never seen before near your house or avenue and trying to see how to do something wrong you must tell your neighbors ».

This shows that City Pumbu doesn’t have a good communication system or modern tools but they are very efficient and able to reach all peoples around the City.
“We must see this City as an example of how an African city can show the life that we expect in order to have a green world and prevent global warming” said a student in environment inhabitant of the City Pumbu.
