The Democratic Republic of Congo signed a memorandum of understanding of more than a billion US dollars this Wednesday, February 12 at the Palais des Nations, with General Electric
The DRC was
represented by the ministers of health, Eteni Longondo, and the Minister of
hydroelectric and electricity, Eustache Muhanzi Mubembe, The General Electric party was represented by the Chairman of the board, George Njenga the Company. This american company has its
headquarters in South Africa.
It is the
largest US investment in the DRC worth more than US $ 1 billion, said Peter
Pham, the United States of America's special envoy for the Great Lakes, to the
press. attended the ceremony, accompanied by the American Ambassador to the DRC,
Mike Hammer.
According to
Peter Pham, this memorandum of understanding covers several sectors including
health, energy, education and other commercial. For Peter Pham, the government
and the American people are the most contributors in the DRC in the fields of
health, fight against Ebola. And in the field of education, more than a
thousand schools in the DRC are supported by American subsidies, he added.
Before the
signing of the memorandum of understanding, Peter Pham had talks of more than
an hour with President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo.
"I have
come to bring the support of the United States on its vision for the
development of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and on the will of the
Congolese people for change," he said, adding that he acts of a change
represented by the fight against corruption, impunity, the improvement of the
business climate, the pacification in the East of the countryand so forth.
