The reopening of the Belgian consulate general in Lubumbashi in Democratic Republic of the Congo
The belgian governmental delegation led by Prime Minister Sophie Wilmès has arrived today Thursday 7th February in Lubumbashi the capital of the Haut-Katanga Province, which is the secong largest town and economical capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo following Kinshasa, for the ceremony for the reopening of the Belgian consulate general in Lubumbashi.
The ceremony was held with the presence of the Governor of the Haut-Katanga Mr. Jacques Kyabula Katwe as well as some staff members of the Governorate office.
It should be noted that the Consulate General reopened its doors to the public in January 2020 after two years of closure linked to the crisis which has strained relations between Belgium and its former colony in recent years.
This reopening is part of the revitalization of bilateral relations between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Belgium. It follows successful exchanges between the two countries since the inauguration of President Felix Tshisekedi. The host country's agreement was given on December 27, 2019, by the Council of Ministers of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Consulate General will offer all consular services such as legalization, issuance of passports and identity cards, as well as consular and security assistance to Belgians residing in the provinces of Haut-Katanga, Tanganyika, Haut-Lomami and Lualaba. From Monday to Friday, access to consular offices is free between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Outside these hours, it is possible to request an appointment.
Before going to
the counters, it is strongly advised to consult the useful information concerning any specific request on the website of the Consulate General.
The Consulate
General is also responsible for issuing Schengen visa (Belgium and 14 Schengen
