Ecobank Transnational Incorporated appoints Alain Nkontchou Chairman of the Board of Directors


Mr. Nkontchou has always provided the Board with his rich experience and we look forward to his solid leadership while wishing him every success.

The main pan-African banking group, Ecobank (www.Ecobank.com), welcome the appointment of Mr. Alain Nkontchou, of Cameroonian nationality, independent non-executive director since 2015, as Chairman of the Board of Directors of his holding company, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), as of June 30, 2020. 

In accordance with the statutes of ETI, Mr. Emmanuel Ikazoboh, a Nigerian national, retired on June 30, 2020, after the expiration of his six-year term at the head of the Board of Directors and having reached the age of 70. 

Alain Nkontchou said: “I am honored by my appointment as President of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated. As a member of its Board of Directors since 2015, I noted the resilience of Ecobank and its memorable past, built on foundations that have succeeded in the Bank's success in the long term. I am pleased to work with the Board of Directors and the management team at the evolving stage of the Bank. I remain convinced that the institution is well equipped to continue its activities properly in the current context and to provide benchmark financial services to our clients in Africa. I would also like to express my thanks to my predecessor, Mr. Emmanuel Ikazoboh, for his leadership of the Council and wish him all the best for the future."

Alain Nkontchou is a partner and director, co-founder of Enko Capital Management LLP, an asset management company based in London and Johannesburg, focused on investment opportunities in Africa. Mr. Nkontchou was an advisor to Maison Laurent-Perrier, producer of champagne, where he served as a non-executive director from 1999 to 2009. Between 1995 and 2008, he was Managing Director of Global Macro-Trading Group of Credit Suisse in London. 

At least, he held the same position within JP Morgan Chase & Co. Between 1989 and 1994, he worked for the Chemical Bank in Paris and in New York, where he became Vice President, in charge of trading and Sales. Mr. Nkontchou has a brilliant track record of commercial success, having generated for each of these leading institutions, revenues generated in US dollars. 

He holds a Master in Electrical Engineering from Supélec and the Pierre & Marie Curie University of Paris, as well as a Master in Finance and Accounting from ESCP (Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris).
