DRC: Rawbank celebrates the International Day of Indigenous Peoples (JIPA 2020)

On August 9, the International Day of Indigenous Peoples, JIPA in acronym, was celebrated at the Kinshasa botanical garden, under the theme "COVID-19 and the resilience of indigenous populations.

"For this 26th international day, as an education partner in the DRC, RAWBANK is committed to offering indigenous children a large batch of educational tablets named" SchoolAp Molakisi Tab "with content certified by the Ministry of Primary, Secondary and Professional Education.

In view of the topic addressed, these peoples who occupy 21 of the 26 provinces in the country are essential partners in the fight against the pandemic through their in-depth knowledge of the ecosystem and good practices for relieving flu symptoms thanks to their traditional knowledge.

Many personalities were present including the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, Security and Customary Affairs and personal representative of the Head of State who highlighted the problem constantly suffered by the indigenous people; namely, discrimination, violence, deprivation of customary rights and property, and exclusion from the management of public affairs.

And in his words, he continues: “Added to this is the lack of economic opportunities in their favor. The abject poverty, the dispossession and the expulsion from their ancestral land as well as the lack of laws and public policy taking into account their way of life, their traditional practices, land rights and endogenous knowledge. "

RAWBANK, as an education partner in the DRC took advantage of this 26th international day to involve SchoolAp in order to make education more accessible for these peoples. As a reminder, SchoolAp is a Congolese startup that operates in the Congolese education sector with the aim of improving the quality of education via the internet and by providing digital access to lessons.

As Christopher MAFINGA, assistant to the Business / Schoolap Strategy Director General, underlined: “In each tablet you have lessons, specific themes and exercises. The most important thing is that you can access it in offline mode so even if you don't have an internet connection. " In addition, killing two birds with one stone, the event aimed to call on the relevant authorities to put in place a national program for the development of indigenous peoples. On the eve of this event, Mr. Mustafa RAWJI, Managing Director of RAWBANK granted a fruitful exchange to the representatives of indigenous peoples.

To end this courtesy visit in style, generous RAWBANK donations were given to them, while promising them support in this process for sustainable and inclusive development. RAWBANK, the local bank, has been committed, since its creation, to improving the social security of the Congolese.

For this umpteenth gesture, the bank has opted for the protection and enhancement of indigenous peoples in order to contribute to the development of this large and strong Congo.
