Fight against covid-19: France supports the DRC in a massive screening campaign for cases of co-morbidities (hypertension and diabetes) in the context of the covid19 pandemic

The people most at risk of developing and dying severe forms of covid-19 are people over 50 and those with associated diseases in the first row of which diabetes and high blood pressure.

Screening for these two conditions is therefore essential in order to take care of them as quickly as possible and to put in place both individual plan and their family circle of preventive measures against covid-19 in particular barrier gestures and social distancing. On October 8, at the Education and Diabetes Center in Kinshasa, the ceremony of launch of massive screening activities for co-morbidities (hypertension and diabetes) as part of the covid pandemic19. 

The French Ambassador to the DRC, François Pujolas welcomed this initiative. "The launch of this program illustrates the adaptation of the strategy to fight against covid-19 and testifies to France's constant commitment to this fight and more broadly to the fight against epidemics in the Democratic Republic of Congo ”, he declared in particular.

This initiative, launched by the World Health Organization with the support of UNICEF and in collaboration with national programs for the control of diabetes and cardio vascular disease is funded by the European Union Humanitarian Program (ECHO). Beyond the fight against covid-19 this program is also an opportunity to focus on the importance of combating noncommunicable diseases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo which increasingly affect the country's population, especially in urban areas. France, through its health adviser, was one of those who, through their advocacy with the The Response Advisory Council is at the origin of the reflections that led to this new strategy of response against covid-19. 

During his speech at the launching ceremony, the expert in support of the embassy in the fight against epidemics in the DRC, Dr. Jean-Elie Malkin, reaffirmed France's support for the DRC which results in the financing of a pilot project led by Médecin Du Monde which will start very soon in Kinshasa in addition to the WHO program.
