St. George’s University Partners with Ugandan North American Association to Expand Medical Education Opportunities for Ugandan Students
St. George’s University (SGU) School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, has entered into an affiliation agreement with the Ugandan North American Association (UNAA) aiming to expand medical education opportunities for aspiring Ugandan doctors in North America and Uganda.
The partnership focuses on increasing accessibility and affordability of medical education while enhancing residency opportunities for Ugandan students. It provides crucial support to students based in Uganda who are eager to pursue careers in medicine, with the goal of practicing in the US and Canada.
One of the key issues this affiliation addresses is the fierce competition for medical school seats in the US and Canada, where opportunities for Ugandan students are minimal. Through this collaboration, SGU offers a solution by allowing qualified Ugandan students to apply for and enroll in its Doctor of Medicine (MD) program. Those accepted into SGU’s Four-Year MD Program and the 5-, 6-, or 7-Year MD tracks will be eligible for a partial tuition scholarship*, reducing the financial burden on these students. However, students will still be responsible for covering the remaining balance of their tuition fees.
UNAA Spokesperson said “This partnership between UNAA and St. George’s University is a turning point for aspiring Ugandan doctors in North America and Uganda. By opening doors to medical education and offering partial financial support, we are helping shape the future of healthcare professionals who will serve not just our communities but global healthcare systems. This agreement reflects UNAA’s commitment to empowering our members with opportunities that transcend borders.
"Through this partnership, SGU and UNAA are paving the way for a new generation of Ugandan medical professionals to make significant contributions to healthcare systems worldwide.
