The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) encourages the President of the DRC, Félix Tshisekedi, for his determination to fight against armed groups in the eastern part of his country, in the sideline of the 33rd Summit of the African Union in Addis Ababa, the Capital of Ethiopia

The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Mr. Antonio Guterres, has encouraged the President of the DRC, Félix Tshisekedi, "for his determination to fight against armed groups in the eastern part of his country" this statement was made during a meeting between the 2 personalities in the sideline of the 33rd Summit of the African Union in Addis Ababa, the Capital of Ethiopia.  Encouragement was expressed on Sunday February 9 in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) during the meeting between the two personalities, before the opening of the work of the 33rd session of the General Assembly of the African Union. According to the presidential press, the UN boss praised the opening efforts made by the Congolese Head of State towards neighboring countries. In the field of the task of fighting against the armed groups in the East of the country, the Secretary-General of the United Nations wanted coordination of the headquarters of the forces engaged in this fight.

The reopening of the Belgian consulate general in Lubumbashi in Democratic Republic of the Congo

The belgian governmental delegation led by Prime Minister Sophie Wilmès has arrived today Thursday 7th February in Lubumbashi the capital of the Haut-Katanga Province, which is the secong largest town and economical capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo following Kinshasa, for the ceremony for the reopening of the Belgian consulate general in Lubumbashi.  The ceremony was held with the presence of the Governor of the Haut-Katanga Mr. Jacques Kyabula Katwe as well as some staff members of the Governorate office. It should be noted that the Consulate General reopened its doors to the public in January 2020 after two years of closure linked to the crisis which has strained relations between Belgium and its former colony in recent years. This reopening is part of the revitalization of bilateral relations between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Belgium. Belgian Prime Minister Sophie believes that actions must take precedence over words, as regards cooperation between Belgium and the DRC. She said this Thursday, February 6, after her exchange with President Tshisekedi at the Palais de la Nation in Kinshasa. She places her very first international visit to the DRC as a response to the will of the Congolese head of state to see bilateral relations between the two countries resume with a view to frank cooperation. “When the President decided to make his first international visit to Belgium, he gave us a strong signal. The visit of the belgian governmental delegation led by Prime Minister Sophie Wilmès which arrived in Kinshasa the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on wednesday 5, was announced in January following a meeting between Ms. Wilmès and Congolese President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo in margin of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. This historically significant visit aims to “seal the renewed friendship between Belgium and Congo.” Alexander De Croo, vice-Prime Minister and Minister for Development Cooperation, and Pieter De Crem, Minister for Foreign Trade, will travel with her. With this visit, the Belgian government answers Tshisekedi’s visit to Belgium in September 2019, which was the first time in 12 years that a Congolese president set foot on Belgian soil. It has to put a definitive end to the diplomatic crisis between Belgium and Congo that lasted until the beginning of 2019. The tension was due to the lack of clarity
