According to the Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus, Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo met with Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) President Félix Tshisekedi on March 3, 2020 in Washington, DC. Secretary Pompeo and President Tshisekedi discussed strengthened ties between the United States and the DRC in the year since the country’s historic peaceful transfer of power.  They pledged to work together to advance the U.S.-DRC Privileged Partnership for Peace and Prosperity which launched after President Tshisekedi visited Washington D.C. last April. The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo visited the International Monetary Funds Head Office in United States of America on Wednesday (March 3) to discuss the African countries economic priorities. President Felix Tshisekedi was warmly greeted by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, and they spent an hour together in closed door discussions. “We discussed the importance of the government taking bold actions to boost revenue, improve governance, and protect social spending, while limiting expenditure to available resources,” said Georgieva in a statement following the meeting. A resident card for all foreigners living in the Congolese capital will be launched in the next few days, provincial interior minister Didier Tenge announced on Wednesday February 26, 2020. This initiative will restore order, identify and better control the migratory flow in the city. Tenge Litho, who spoke to representatives of large communities living in Kinshasa, indicated that the issuance of this card, which is clear from the attributions recognized in the provinces, will be carried out with obligation to hand over immigrants to declare themselves and have a secure stay.
