United Nations Police (UNPOL) officers serving with United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) conducts awareness raising workshop on preventing sexual violence

To raise awareness on the need to end violence against women, United Nations Police (UNPOL) officers based in Rumbek, Lakes state, conducted a three-day awareness-raising workshop for 50 South Sudanese policing counterparts from the country’s National Police Service. The focus: Enhancing participants’ understanding of key issues such as criminal investigations, interviewing survivors of such violence, upholding the rights of suspects, survivors and witnesses as well as collection, handling and storage of forensic evidence, case preparations and court procedures. United States (U.S.) Embassy and Civil Society Organizations Partner to Make Elections More Accessible

This initiative builds on previous U.S. Government support to strengthen the capacity of democratic institutions during elections. During the visit of U.S. Special Advisor for International Disabilities Rights, Sara Minkara, to Maputo, the U.S. Embassy signed grants with three civil society organizations that will contribute to making participation in Mozambique’s elections more accessible for people with disabilities. “Inclusive and accessible elections are key component of a healthy democracy,” said U.S. Ambassador to Mozambique Peter H. The Bank had earmarked funding for ten capacity-building projects, focusing on gender and climate through the Africa Climate Change Fund. Former Irish president Mary Robinson headlined a panel discussion to mark ‘Gender Day’ at the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Egypt. She called for a bespoke climate fund to support grassroots women to tackle climate change and build resilience. The African Development Bank organized the session held during COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh under the theme, Gender Sensitive and climate just finance mechanisms.
