United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Statement on the Announcement of Agreement on the Roadmap to a Peaceful and Democratic End of the Transitional Period

UNMISS commends the Government of South Sudan for securing the consent and agreement of all the signatories to the R-ARCSS. The United Nations Mission in South Sudan, (UNMISS) welcomes the announcement on 4th August 2022 of an agreement by the parties to the Revitalized Peace Agreement (R-ARCSS) on a Roadmap which extends the current transitional period by 24 months. This extension is to enable the implementation of key outstanding tasks in the R-ARCSS. UNMISS commends the Government of South Sudan for securing the consent and agreement of all the signatories to the R-ARCSS and urges the authorities to embark on extra efforts to bring on board any other stakeholders, guarantors and witnesses. The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and Partner Organization Provide Infrastructure for Clean Water at Malakal Prison

Supervised by engineering troops serving with the peacekeeping mission, a group of inmates assisted in the digging and connecting of the pipelines through which the water flows from a treatment plant to the water tank. Water is life, but if it’s not clean it can also spell death, or at least all sorts of diseases. Some 80 inmates at the prison in Malakal, who used to both bathe in and drink untreated water from the river next to the penitentiary, know all about that, but thanks to a joint project implemented by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and World Vision, they can now consider skin rashes and bouts of runny tummies history. “Now we finally have fresh drinking water at our disposal.
