Mr. Peter Pham, Special Envoy of the United States of America for the Great Lakes Region was received, this Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at the Palace of the Nation by the Congolese Head of State Félix Tshisekedi.

The American diplomat, according to a source from the Presidency, carried a message from Donald Trump concerning the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

Peter Pham led a large delegation from the senior management of General Electric, an American multinational that has come to invest in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), in the energy and health sectors.

Mike Hammer, American Ambassador to the DRC, was also part of this important delegation, also made up of the Congolese Ministers of Health and Water Resources. Nothing filtered their interview.

Peter Pham’s visit to Kinshasa from February 10 to 13 is part of the commitment of the United States government to the privileged partnership for peace and prosperity established by the United States and the DRC.

The aim will be to strengthen ties between the two nations, emphasizing the improvement of governance, the promotion of peace and security, the fight against corruption, the promotion of human rights and creation of conditions allowing more American investments and the prosperity of the Congolese people.

He will also have the opportunity to inquire about ongoing efforts to stop the current Ebola epidemic as well as on land destroyed by the Congolese government to be ready if a case of Coronavirus is detected in the DRC.

J. Peter Pham is responsible for coordinating the implementation of American policy on transboundary security, political and economic issues in the Great Lakes region as well as strengthening democratic institutions and civil society.

It should be noted that this visit follows the relationship with the privileged American-Congolese partnership for peace and prosperity, concluded in April 2019 during the very first visit of President Félix Tshisekedi to the United States.
