The Arab League Council supports Skhirat Agreement for all settlement on Libyan Crisis

Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan from Riyahd participating in the meeting of the Council of the Arab League, at the level of Foreign Ministers, in its extraordinary session, to discuss the recent situation in Libya, in addition to the topic of the Renaissance Dam

The Council of the Arab League, which held an emergency meeting at the level of Foreign Ministers on Tuesday, reaffirmed its full support for the inter-Libyan political agreement signed between the Libyan parties in December 2015 in Skhirat, Morocco.

This Council, meeting by videoconference on the latest developments in Libya, underlined the importance of the role of all the legal institutions emanating from this political agreement, in accordance with the decision which preceded the recent Arab summit in Tunisia, and which recommended the Skhirat agreement as a basic reference for any solution in Libya. 

Arab Foreign Ministers stressed the need to commit to national unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the stability of Libya and the well-being of its people, emphasizing emphasize the major importance for the Libyan State and its institutions to regain their function of serving the Libyan people free from any external interference.

They also expressed their total rejection of any foreign interference, of whatever kind and source, which would facilitate the influx of foreign terrorist fighters into Libya, warning against the violation of international resolutions regarding the arms embargo , which could threaten the security of Libyan neighbors and the region. 

The political settlement between all Libyans, with their various affiliations, is the only solution to restore security and stability and combat terrorism, they said, expressing their "deep concern" about the external military escalation which, according to them, only aggravates the crisis in Libya and threatens the security and stability of the region as a whole, including the Mediterranean region.

Arab Foreign Ministers also called on the United Nations and the international community to lobby to force all foreign parties to drive mercenaries from all Libyan lands, to work to unify military and security institutions in Libya in the process of the political solution, and to dismantle and disarm armed groups and militias in accordance with the conclusions of the Berlin Conference.
