Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL), a global health organization focused on preventing 100 million deaths from cardiovascular disease and making the world safer from epidemics, today announced the appointment of Precious Matsoso to its Board of Directors.

“We are delighted to welcome Precious Matsoso to our Board of Directors,” said Tom Frieden, President and CEO of Resolve to Save Lives. “Precious Matsoso’s long-time, effective, and insightful leadership on a wide range of public health issues will be an important guide to our work protecting cardiovascular health and strengthening public health systems globally.”

Matsoso was appointed to the RTSL Board of Directors for a term of January 26, 2023 to November 7, 2025. Matsoso is Co-Chair of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Intergovernmental Negotiating Body and Director of the Health Regulatory Science Platform, a division of the Wits Health Consortium. Previously, she served as Director-General of the South African National Department of Health and WHO’s Director of Public Health Innovation and Intellectual Property and Department of Technical Cooperation for Essential Drugs and Traditional Medicines. Additionally, Matsoso was the Registrar of the Medicines Control Council in South Africa for six years and has served on various advisory bodies both nationally and internationally.

“I am honored to join Resolve to Save Lives as a new Board Director at this pivotal moment in the trajectory of the organization,” said Matsoso. “Resolve to Save Lives has made a wonderful impact on global public health since its founding in 2017 and I am excited to be a part of its future growth. I look forward to working with the entire Resolve to Save Lives team to make progress in saving lives for the years ahead.”

“We are so pleased to have Precious Matsoso joining our team. Her experience and perspective are invaluable to our success as a global health organization,” said Dr. Margaret Hamburg, Resolve to Save Lives U.S. Board Chair and Interim VP for Global Biological Programs and Policy, Nuclear Threat Initiative.

Resolve to Save Lives is entering an exciting period of growth after a year of establishing operations as a fully independent global public health organization. In the coming years, RTSL's Board of Directors will guide major programmatic decisions as the organization expands successful programs and advise on fundraising strategies.
